I've been building things with AI long enough now that I've had to stop and ask myself a question I didn't expect: What exactly is happening here?
Not in a worried way. More in the way you step back from something you've been nose-deep in and realize it's bigger than you thought.
This blog is my attempt to think out loud about that — about AI, about software, about the strange and genuinely exciting moment we're living through as builders. It's not a tutorial site. It's not a hype machine. It's a place where I work through ideas in public, share what I'm building, and try to say something honest about where all of this is going.
A little context.
I'm Eric. I build AI-assisted tools — the kind that are meant to actually be useful, not just impressive in a demo. My current focus is a project called Canonic, a world-building engine for writers and storytellers that uses AI in ways I find genuinely interesting. Not to generate the story for you, but to help you build a world coherent enough that a story can live inside it.
I'll write about Canonic here. I'll also write about the broader ecosystem I'm working in — local language models, the changing nature of software development, the tools and workflows I'm experimenting with, and the ideas that keep me up at night in a good way.
Something I keep coming back to.
There's a version of the AI conversation that's mostly noise — breathless predictions, stock prices, apocalyptic warnings, utopian promises. I'm not that interested in any of it.
What I am interested in is the quieter, more practical question: what does it mean to build software when AI is part of the process? Not as a shortcut, but as a collaborator. What changes? What shouldn't change? Where does it genuinely help, and where does it give you a false sense of progress?
I've developed some opinions. I'll share them here.

I don't assume any particular level of expertise. I do assume you'd rather think carefully about this stuff than just consume takes. That's the spirit of this blog.
